We have provided a method for shift-multiplexing of surface holograms and demonstrated the potential for a novel surface holographic memory system using time series signal coding. Phase modulation depth and spatial distribution of the shift-multiplexed surface holograms in this system are discretized when they are fabricated as computer-generated hologram (CGH). In this study, we evaluated the effects of the hologram discretization on the recording density of the medium and the signal-to-noise ratio of the reconstructed signal by numerical simulation.
