Liquid crystals (LCs) exhibit a nonlinear optical effect due to their molecular reorientation by the irradiation with a beam above a certain intensity. Among various LC systems, oligothiophene dye-doped LCs significantly enhance their light sensitivity and improve the nonlinear optical response. However, the light intensity required for molecular reorientation remains high. The rational design of molecular systems for further increasing the sensitivity is desired. In this study, we investigated the nonlinear optical response of dye-doped LCs in terms of host LC structures that determine physical properties.
