Quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) is one of the important modulation formats for digital coherent communication systems, but it requires a complicated external modulator. We have theoretically suggested a direct QAM signal generation technique based on mutually injection locked semiconductor lasers. In this study, we experimentally confirmed the reduced frequency noise of mutually injection locked semiconductor lasers coupled with an optical resonator.
