Plastic/ferroelectric crystals, whose phase transition involves displacement and orientational ordering of molecules, may attract both fundamental and applicational interest for its three-dimensional polarization, which is unusual among molecular ferroelectrics, in addition to solution-processability and sustainability. However, the mechanism of switching characteristics and applicability to devices remain unclear. In this study, it was found out how the unique behavior of ferroelastic domains determines the characteristics of polarization switching by associating the observation of domain response and electric measurements under in-plane electric fields in thin films.
