Hydrogen micro gas jet is locally supplied through a stainless steel nozzle with a micro-orifice tip into the vacuum chamber of SEM. SEM observation is carried out with flowing hydrogen gas into the chamber with evacuation using a turbo molecular pump installed on the chamber. A pulsed high voltage is applied to the nozzle to generate a local micro-discharge hydrogen plasma between the nozzle (anode) and the sample (ground/cathode). Cracks caused by hydrogen embrittlement were confirmed in the metal samples by hydrogen plasma irradiation.
