Control of molecular orientation is important to improve the performance of organic thin film devices. It has been reported that the molecular orientation of pentacene, an organic semiconductor, varies depending on the substrate type and surface state. In this study, pentacene thin films were deposited on SrTiO3 (STO) substrates with various surface conditions, and near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) measurements were performed to investigate the molecular orientation of the films. As a result, it was found that pentacene on STO has a molecular orientation that rises to the surface of the substrate.
