Our group focuses on MicroLED devices as light irradiation tools for optogenetics, an approach gaining prominence in understanding brain mechanisms. In this study, the optical and thermal properties of MicroLEDs in vivo was investigated and a MicroLED/neural electrode hybrid device was developed to capable of light irradiation and neural cativity measurement. Simulations indicated that the developed LED device should be operated below 10 mW/mm² to keep temperature rise within safe limits. This suggests that the distance between the MicroLED and neural electrodes should be less than 150 µm. Finally, both devices was connected by using flip-chip bonding, and a hybrid device with a gap of 50-120 µm was realized while maintaining parallelism between the devices.
