Natural molecules are promising candidates for OPV materials, but there are few reported examples of natural acceptor materials. In this study, we focused on curcumin, a pigment derived from turmeric. The energies of frontier orbitals were experimentally determined, and bulk heterojunction OPVs were fabricated using a bulk heterojunction film of P3HT and curcumin, a typical donor material, as the active layer. Optimization results showed that PCE was 0.34% and FF was 0.59, the highest among OPVs using plant dyes as the active layer.
