Non-poled Mn-doped Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 (PMN-PZT) single crystals prepared by solod state crystal growth showed a clear impedance despite being unpolarized, with k< sub>31 of 0.3, kt of 0.4, and d33 of 520 pC/N. These properties were superior to Mn-doped PZT-based ceramics such as PZT4 and PZT8, and most non-lead piezoelectric materials. Applying a forward DC voltage without polarization reversal to the unpolarized sample (NOP) resulted in higher d33 values of 850 - 920 pC/N compared to the opposite DC voltage direction (reverse direction) to the NOP (620 - 810 pC/N).
