The demand for electric motors is increasing with the spread of e-mobility. Copper square wire is used for the coils of electric motors, and arc welding is currently used, but faster welding speeds are required to increase production. In addition, welding quality directly affects the failure rate, spatter-free and stable welding shapes are required. In this presentation, we focus on laser welding and research on the evaluation of welding speed, spatter generation, and weld shape. We used a blue wavelength 3kW CW laser that is highly absorbed in copper.
