Optical systems with parity and time reversal symmetry (PT symmetry) exhibit interesting phenomena associated with the appearance of exceptional points (EPs), such as superluminal propagation due to anomalous dispersion. In a previous talk, we analyzed the structure of a photonic crystal waveguide utilizing gain/absorption medium and projection symmetry and showed numerically that a superluminal propagation state appears in the vicinity of the EP. In this paper, we analytically derive the conditions for the appearance of the EP based on the k・p perturbation and establish a quantitative method to improve the group velocity contrast.
