We have developed an ultra-compact silicon Raman laser using a two-dimensional photonic crystal nanocavity that confines excitation light and Raman scattered light to achieve laser oscillation. Improving the experimental Q value is important because the oscillation threshold is inversely proportional to the product of the Q values of the two resonance modes. We report here that we have found through numerical calculations that the inclination of the air holes may be one of the reasons why the expected experimental Qp values cannot be stably obtained in the excitation mode.
