We have developed a fluorene derivative as an optically superior fluorene-based liquid crystalline organic semiconductor exhibiting a nematic phase at relatively low temperatures; their oscillator intensity is close to 1, and their PL quantum yield is also 0.9 or higher. By doping a chiral agent into this fluorene derivative liquid crystal organic semiconductor, we could manifest chiral nematic and cholesteric phases. We observed distinct selective reflection in the cholesteric phase, which is a one-dimensional optical confinement structure.
