Recent studies have indicated that improving the gut environment is effective in treating mental illness. However, the development of technologies for simultaneous measurement and manipulation of brain and peripheral organ activity is still insufficient, and thus, it hinders the detailed investigation of the brain and peripheral organ relationship. In particular, latest study reveals that disturbances in the pH balance or abnormal temperatures in gut can induce digestive and absorptive disorders, adversely affecting mental and physical health. In this research, we aim to develop microelectronic fiber sensors that enable simultaneous measurement of pH and temperature to comprehensively understand the brain-gut relationship under pathophysiology.
