In this research, we consider the state of light scattering in a soft material as an "optical reservoir" and develop an optical soft tactile sensor based on the utilization of its high-dimensional mapping. The basic principle is to use the scattered light in the soft material in contact with the material surface to be identified, and to identify the contacting material from the information of the speckle pattern using deep learning. In this study, we show that this sensor can discriminate subtle differences in the material, just like a human finger.
