We investigate a new measurement and analysis method for discriminating metallic elements (aluminum, iron, and copper) in photon-counting CT using a position-sensitive pixel CdTe detector with variable energy threshold. While conventional methods utilize the change of the attenuation coefficient at the K-edge, this method is not applicable to the above metals having the K-edge at the energy of less than 10 keV. These metals are contained in the wastes from nuclear power plants, and their discrimination is required for the treatments such as clearance.
