Particles with superparamagnetic properties, such as low coercivity and high initial permeability, can quickly follow an external AC magnetic field and thus show high harmonic response, which may have potential for magnetic particle imaging (MPI) applications. We prepared SiO2-included Mn0.8Zn0.2Fe2O4 nanoparticles with diameters of 11, 12, 15, and 21 nm using our unique wet mixing method. 12 nm particles were found to be the most suitable for MPI applications, both from magnetization measurements with a SQUID magnetometer and from actual third harmonic response strength measured.
