We demonstrated the generation of ultrabroadband infrared pulses with a spectral range of 1-200 THz through air plasma using multi-plate compressed optical pulses instead of hollow-fiber compression as the method for obtaining sub-millijoule, 10-femtosecond class optical pulses, thereby reducing the required energy of laser pulses. We also characterized the profile of optical pulses suitable for the generation of ultrabroadband infrared pulses and found that the optical pulses with a duration of 20 fs, the shortest achieved using the pair of chirped mirrors employed in the experiment, and a spectral width corresponding to the Fourier transform limited duration of 14 fs yielded the most broadband infrared wave.
