Photon upconversion (UC) is a technology that converts low-energy to high-energy light and has attracted attention as a way to efficiently use sunlight.
So far, we have developed a blue OLED that can be driven at ultra-low voltages by using our original UC that utilizes charge transfer states. In this study, the naphthalenediimide used in this OLED was coupled with thiophenes to provide light absorption ability. As a result, blue light UC was observed in the layered film of this new molecule and anthracene derivative (PCAN) when irradiated with green light.
