There is a growing demand for a means of objectively evaluating the health condition of hair by acquiring a tactile feel of the hair.We have developed a new hair cuticle diagnostic system equipped with a high-resolution MEMS tactile sensor with a height resolution of 42 nm and a friction force resolution of 12 μN.This system enables quantification of the number of cuticles in a range of 50 mm, which is significantly wider than the field of view of conventional devices, and quantification of damage levels using a machine learning model based on the results of sensory evaluation by a panel of hair experts.
