Gasification of woody biomass through pyrolysis can produce synthesis gas (H2 and CO), enabling gas turbine power generation and hydrocarbon production. However, in the pyrolytic gasification of wood, the formation of by-products such as tar and coke often causes pipe clogging. In this context, plasma-generated radical reaction fields are expected to promote gasification. In this study, we focused on the aromatic structures of lignin, a major component of wood, and investigated the gasification mechanism under dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma.
