Photonic crystal resonators can achieve significant mode modulation even with slight perturbations, making them promising candidates for low-loss, highly integrated optical switches and non-volatile memory applications. In this study, by using Sb2Se3—a transparent phase-change material with an extinction coefficient on the order of 10-3 or less in both its amorphous and crystalline phases—we successfully modulated the resonant mode while maintaining a high Q-factor before and after the phase transition. Compared to previous studies, this approach achieved superior performance in preserving a high Q-factor across phase changes.
