This study investigated the effect of applying an infrared (IR) reflective black backsheet (BS) to crystalline Si photovoltaic modules without encapsulant. Compared to conventional non-reflective black BS, the IR reflective BS increased the short-circuit current by reflecting IR light while maintaining aesthetic appearance, suggesting improved conversion efficiency. These results indicate potential applications in building-integrated (BIPV) and vehicle-integrated (VIPV) photovoltaics, where lightweight design and aesthetics are essential.
