Transition metal dichalcogenides, composed of group 6 transition metals (M) and chalcogens (Ch), are represented by the chemical formula MCh2 and are known to exhibit different electronic structures depending on their geometric configurations. As a further reduction in dimensionality, transition metal monochalcogenides with the formula M6Ch6 have also been identified, and the elucidation of novel physical phenomena arising from their diverse aggregation states is highly anticipated. To deepen our understanding of how various structural states composed of the same elements can be controlled, we investigated the structural transition between 1T’-MoTe2and Mo6Te6.
