Tandem (multi-junction) solar cells are garnering attention as a pathway to achieving efficiencies beyond the Shockley–Queisser limit. To date, these solar cells have primarily been used in applications where performance is prioritized over cost. Recently, however, there has been a surge of interest in the research and development of cost-effective, high-efficiency tandem solar cells for consumer applications, employing various material combinations such as perovskites, silicon, and CIS-based compounds. This symposium will bring together experts engaged in diverse areas of tandem solar cell research and development to discuss the current state of progress and future prospects for enhancing efficiency and reducing costs. It will also provide an opportunity for cross-disciplinary exchange of challenges and ideas. We look forward to welcoming all those with an interest in tandem solar cells.
