Plasma treatment has applications in agriculture and medicine. Recent studies found a strong bactericidal effect by irradiating tryptophan (Trp) with oxygen radicals. Therefore, in order to elucidate the bactericidal mechanism by Trp, we focused on indole, which has a similar structure to Trp, and reported on the existence of a bactericidal species derived from indole. Here we report the successful separation of substances in indole solution treated with oxygen radicals using HPLC.
