We are developing a four-terminal Cu2O/Si tandem solar cell with over 30% efficiency and high reliability for electric mobility applications. Cu2O is composed of abundant copper and oxygen, and is expected to have high durability. We reported an efficiency of 10.5% with a small Cu2O cell and demonstrated 9.3% efficiency at a practical size. The Cu2O/Si tandem solar cell achieved an efficiency of 26.1%, but improvements are needed to reach the target of 30%. We are working on efficiency improvements, focusing on the Cu2O top cell, which has significant room for improvement.
