We built a spectroscopic setup that generates ultrashort-pulse soft-X-ray high-order harmonics up to the 59th order (~71 eV) by focusing a 1030 nm, 200 fs PHAROS laser into argon gas with an f = 200 mm lens. The resulting EUV radiation was used to record the transmission spectrum of a Si3N4 thin film; comparison with theoretical calculations allowed a non-destructive determination of the film thickness. We also present preliminary transmission data for Cr and Mg thin films, underscoring the system’s promise for future materials evaluation and magnetization-dynamics studies.
