To identify causative bacteria of bloodstream infection within one hour, we are developing a genetic testing system using a microfluidic device. In this presentation, we report a rapid and efficient bacterial-collection technology used in the gene extraction process. In this technique, dimethylamine-modified magnetic beads are used to collect limited number of bacteria in a sample rapidly. As a result of evaluation using a simulated sample spiked with Staphylococcus aureus in purchased blood, an average recovery rate of 92% was obtained after 25 minutes of treatment.
