The layered oxide Sr2.5Bi0.5NiO5 exhibits a 100-fold increase in electrical conductivity due to a change in the Sr/Bi arrangement in the rock salt layer from a disordered to an ordered state. Additionally, in the Pb-substituted Sr2.5(Bi1-xPbx)0.5NiO5, electrical conductivity varies in correlation with the degree of the Sr/Bi ordering. In this study, we evaluated the electronic states using X-ray absorption fine structure analysis and investigated the origin of these phenomena.
