In recent years, microRNA and DNA fragments have attracted attention as biomarkers for cancer diagnosis. Devices capable of detecting nucleic acids in a non-labeled manner are desirable for use in home point-of-care applications to prevent cancer recurrence. Salts in the measurement solution to detect the intrinsic negative charge of nucleic acids by a general potentiometry method were searched. Then, the evaluation of multivalent cations capable of forming duplexes at low concentrations was investigated. We succeeded in observing the change in potential due to DNA duplex formation.
