We confirmed that the photocatalytic effect was improved by inserting a Cu layer under the TiO2. In this study, we considered that the high efficiency was due to hot carriers generated by the surface plasmon resonance of the Cu layer, and investigated the effect of defect control of TiO2 by changing the atmospheric gas type during annealing. As a result, the photocatalytic effect was improved in the sample annealed in vacuum for 2 hours, while the efficiency was reduced in the sample annealed in an oxygen atmosphere, due to copper diffusion to the surface.
