In the field of optical sensing, OPAs (optical phased arrays) have been attracting significant attention. In particular, passive OPAs based on the principle of arrayed waveguide gratings (AWGs) can achieve significantly lower power consumption compared to conventional active OPAs. However, passive OPAs are fundamentally limited in vertical resolution when performing two-dimensional scanning. In this study, we demonstrate that resolution can be improved by employing a multi-input star coupler and switching its inputs using optical switches.
