Standing striations observed in DC glow discharges have long been known, and detailed research has been conducted into the mechanism of the appearance of moving striations. We developed a device that levitates micrometer-sized particles in the outer region of the discharge (the region further below the cathode and anode installed vertically), and found that a group of levitated particles forms fine standing striations. To clarify the reason for the formation of these fine standing striations, we investigated in detail the electrode potential dependence of the structure of the standing striations and the shape of the particle cluster.
