The influence of the substrate on the phase separation in microwell suspended lipid bilayers composed of saturated lipids, unsaturated lipids and cholesterol is discussed. It is shown that the shape of the microwell apertures and changes in the curvature of the lipid bilayer, the stress distribution and the interaction of the suspended membrane with the substrate control the phase separation.
