La₃Ni₂O₇ and La₄Ni₃O₁₀ are of great interest due to their high transition temperatures and the presence of NiO₂ planes, which are analogous to the CuO₂ planes in high-T_c cuprates. This presentation will outline methods for synthesizing high-quality samples of these compounds and for precisely controlling their oxygen content. The effects of crystal defects on their electronic properties will also be discussed, followed by the presentation of electronic phase diagrams for both compounds as functions of pressure, temperature, and oxygen content.
