Silver is an ideal candidate for plasmonic materials. However, formation of siver sulfide scale on the silver surfaces due to its high reactivity and transformation of surface morphology leads to drastic degradation of the plasmonic properties. The present work utilized tin oxide layer to prevent the silver surfaces from sulfidation and/or transformation of surface morphologies. Tin oxide layer with its thickness of 5 nm suppressed the degradation of the plasmonic properties of silver thin film during exposure to ambient air.
