Graphene is permeable to hydrogen ions, and proton and deuteron can be separated due to isotope effects during the permeation. However, the detailed mechanism of this permeation has not been fully elucidated. In this study, the hydrogen ion permeability of graphene is directly measured by irradiating graphene with a hydrogen ion beam and detecting the transmitted ions to elucidate the hydrogen ion permeation mechanism of graphene.
