Deuteration of rubrene was attempted to lower the threshold of triplet-triplet annihilation (TTA) photon upconversion (UC) from near-infrared light, and its triplet lifetime was evaluated. Pt-catalyzed deuterated substitution was employed for the deuteration, but fading suggesting deformation the rubrene backbone was observed, resulting in the deuteration ratio of only about 20%. With the partially deuterated rubrene, the triplet lifetime was evaluated from the decay profiles of UC emission, and a 2% increase in the lifetime was observed
