OLEDs have a structure in which very thin organic layers with separated functions are sandwiched between two electrodes. The electric field behavior inside OLEDs during operation is a critical issue for analyzing the operating mechanism, degradation analysis, and improvement of OLED performances. Up to now, we have been utilizing the charging behavior inside multi-layered OLEDs during operation by using doubly-resonant vibrational sum frequency generation (VSFG) spectroscopy, which allows wavelength-tunable visible light to be applied. In this presentation, we will report on the development of a new electronic sum frequency generation (ESFG) spectroscopy technique that has been used to analyze the electric field behavior inside OLEDs in detail, and how it has succeeded in studying the electric field behavior inside OLED devices when an applied voltage is applied.
