Distributed Face Cooling (DFC) was developed as a new type of compact gain medium for high-energy- high-repetition-rate lasers. The DFC-PowerChip was engineered through interlayer-assisted Surface-Activated Bonding, allowing multiple bonding of Nd:YAG gain medium to transparent sapphire heat sink. Under 10J pumping at repetition rates between 2 Hz and 25 Hz, the thermal lens of DFC sample was 40% weaker than the one occurring in a reference bulk sample. In addition, no measurable depolarization was observed for DFC, whereas a depolarization ratio up to 15% was measured for the bulk. Two DFC-PowerChips were implemented in a 2-stage 2-pass amplifier seeded by a 4 mJ subns seed beam. Under 2 x 10 J pumping at 2 Hz, 3.5 J could be extracted from the 22 cm3 gain volume.
