Ferromagnetic resonance,Gilbert damping constant

Gilbert damping constant α is determined by the linear relationship between the ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) linewidth ΔH and the resonant frequency f. However, since ΔH includes contributions other than ΔHint, so it is often difficult to accurately calculate α. In this study, Fe thin films were grown on MgO(100) and MgO(111) substrates, and anomalous (nonlinear) magnetic field orientation dependence of α is observed on MgO(111). We suggest that the inhomogeneity induced by the large lattice misfit between Fe and substrates provides contributions other than ΔHint, resulting in the anomalous f dependence of ΔH.
