Interfacially modified perovskite solar cells using phenelethylammonium iodide (PEAI) as the interfacial modification layer have attracted much attention. However, previous studies have been insufficient to understand the mechanism of property improvement by PEAI interface modification. In this study, we report on our investigation of charge behavior inside interface-modified perovskite solar cells with PEAI using electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy to determine how PEAI affects the charge state at the interface. As a result, ESR signals originating from charges inside the transport layer were detected, and the cause of the performance improvement due to the interface modification was analyzed from a microscopic viewpoint.
