Keywords:

circularly polarized light,depolarization

When circularly polarized light is incident on biological tissue, it is scattered multiple times by the cell
nuclei, resulting in circular depolarization. The strength of this circular depolarization strongly
depends on the size parameter (X=2a/λ), which is the ratio of particle diameter (2a) to wavelength (λ).
In order to verify this relationship obtained by the calculations experimentally, we investigated the
circular depolarization of transmitted light through dispersed solutions with the polystyrene beads
having a uniform size.
