We have pioneered research aimed at generating low-temperature neutral carbon atom gases in a vacuum and realizing cold chemical reactions of organic molecules as well as precision laser spectroscopy. Starting from a point where methods for producing ground-state neutral carbon atoms in a vacuum were unknown, we developed a gas generation method based on laser ablation and established optical gas observation through two-photon transition-induced fluorescence under deep-ultraviolet pulse laser irradiation. Additionally, we demostrated buffer gas cooling of carbon atoms, achieving cooling to the Kelvin region, and realized of Doppler spectroscopy.
