New monolayer electron-collecting materials were developed for perovskite solar cells. The molecules have a cationic π-conjugated system by introducing alkylphosphonic acid groups at the nitrogen atoms of the bipyridine skeleton. Compared to conventional neutral molecules, our cationic molecules enabled more efficient electron extraction from the perovskite layer, improving device performances. In this presentation, we will discuss the relationship between electronic structure, surface coverage, and solar cell performances.
