Although hydrogen energy is well-known as a promising energy source, there are some challenges in handling such as leakage or hydrogen embrittlement. Hence, development of hydrogen barrier films to prevent the leakage of hydrogen gas or tritium is necessary. In this study, amorphous WO3, a chromic material, is used. When hydrogen is injected into a WO3 thin film, coloration of the film occurs from transparent to blue. Using this property, a method for quantitatively evaluating hydrogen barrier performance is investigated.
