Cadmium (Cd), a toxic heavy metal element, is one of the threats to the safety of agricultural crops. It is necessary to elucidate regulatory mechanisms of Cd behaviors in plants and control them to establish novel cultivation techniques for safe crops with low Cd accumulation. We are focusing on glutathione, a bioactive peptide, as a regulator that controls Cd behaviors in plants. The regulatory mechanisms of Cd behaviors in plants triggered by glutathione, which have been elucidated using positron imaging technique and other experimental techniques, will be introduced.
