In the ongoing discussions about the redefinition of the second, both approaches—a single transition to replace the cesium hyperfine transition and the definition of the second based on multiple atomic transition frequencies—are being considered. While the latter is challenging to comprehend, it has been found that interpreting it using a graphical representation in frequency space significantly enhances understanding, which is reported here.
