We report on the effect of an organic solvent (hexadecane) present between the membranes of giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) on membrane fusion of budded baculoviruses (BV) and GUVs. We observed the fusion of BVs with GUVs prepared by electroformation and water-in-oil (W/O) emulsion centrifugation. It was confirmed that W/O emulsion centrifuged GUVs were more likely to fuse with BVs. We will investigate the relationship between the membrane properties of GUVs and BV fusion and aim to establish a control mechanism for GUV and BV fusion.
